- The brush is not rotating on my machine. What should I check?
- Answer:
- Please ensure your machine is unplugged from the outlet prior to trying the following:
- Remove the 4 screws from the bottom of the machine. Also remove the screw located in the middle of the plate directly above the brush.
- Lift the access plate off. Grasp the Rotating Floor Brush at both ends and lift. Clean strings, hair and other debris from Rotating Floor Brush, paying particular attention to brush ends. Clean strings, hair and other debris from Motor Pulley and Drive Belt areas.
-
Check the belt to ensure it is not broken. If it is, the replacement belt should be either a Style 7,9, or 10. If your brush still does not rotate, please take your machine to a local Acevacuums BISSELL Authorized Service Center.
What do I do if I need internal replacement parts for my machine? (motors, pumps, wiring, etc)?
Answer:
BISSELL has determined certain parts should only be made available to Authorized Service Centers like Acevacuums.com. These include any parts which are only accessible if the machine is opened. Replacement of these parts should be performed by an individual trained on the internal repairs of the machine. This decision has been made to ensure the safety of our consumers. Please contact an Acevacuums Authorized Service Center in your area for further assistance with your request.
My Steam&Sweep is not producing steam. What should I check?
Answer:
We’re sorry you are experiencing no steam while using your Steam&Sweep. Please follow these steps below to try to remedy any concerns with the machine.
Please do not use vinegar or other cleaning solutions in your steam product. Use of demineralized or distilled water is recommended for optimal performance. Ambient tap water can also be used in your steam product.
- Ensure the trigger has tension by checking for it to ‘spring back’ when depressed. If the handle does not have tension, please unplug the unit, remove the water filter & tank from the back of the machine and proceed to remove & re-install the handle.
- Check the filter for any cracks or damage. If cracks or pitting is present, a new filter will need to be ordered. Please visit or call Acevacuums to place an order.
- Check the color of the filter grains. Filter grains should be green. If filter grains are blue, a new filter needs to be ordered. Please visit or call Acevacuums to place an order.
- Ensure the filter is seated properly on the body of the machine. If the filter is not lined up straight, please remove & re-install the filter.
- Ensure the water tank is full of ambient tap, distilled or demineralized water. Do not use vinegar or other cleaning solutions in your steam product. If tank is empty, refill & seat properly on the back of machine.
- Plug the machine in & check that the blue ‘Ready Light’ is illuminated on the front of the machine. If the light does not illuminate after a few minutes, unplug machine & try a different outlet to ensure the machine is plugged into a functioning outlet. If the light does not illuminate after several outlets are tried, please contact BISSELL Consumer Care.
-
Check for steam by removing the water tank & filter from machine and pouring a small amount of water in the receiver area for the male connector on the filter. With the trigger depressed for 2 minutes, check if water dissipates and the machine begins to steam.
- If the machine does not steam after this step is performed, remove the mop foot and press the trigger to check for steam at the base of the machine.
- If the machine does not steam with the mop foot removed, clean the spray tip area by inserting a paper clip into the hole. If the machine continues to not steam, please contact BISSELL Consumer Care.
- If the machine does steam with the mop head removed, the mop foot may be clogged. Pour white vinegar through the hole in the mop foot to clean it out. Do not run vinegar or any other cleaning solutions through the machine via the water tank.
- Re-assemble the mop foot. Attach the filter and water tank and depress the trigger to check for steam. A soft ‘knocking sound’ may occur when the trigger is depressed. This sound is normal as the machine is trying to pull water through the pump & filter. It should subside after a few minutes.

- Otherwise, these are step-by-step pictures to assist as well.
- Let’s start by figuring out where your carpet cleaner can spray. Check for spray from the hose and at the floor. If you have spray at just one of the two, you can scroll down to find some troubleshooting steps for your situation. If you don’t have any spray at all, start below:
- Please make sure to only use BISSELL® Formula with your ProHeat 2X® – it will keep your machine in tip-top shape!
- 1. Some ProHeat 2X carpet cleaners may be equipped with an in line filter. Please check for the red filter in the location below by removing your water tank and follow steps a-e below. If you don’t have an inline filter, please proceed to step 2.
- a. Safety first! Make sure the machine is powered off and unplug it from the outlet.
- b. Next, remove the water tank and set it aside.
- c. Remove the red solution filter cap by inserting a coin or flathead screwdriver into the slot in the top. Turn it counter clockwise to unscrew it and set it aside too.
- d. Remove the white filter by grasping the stem and pulling up and out of the unit. Rinse the filter under cold water. Note: Be careful not to drop the filter down the sink or disposal.
- e. Replace the filter into the unit, making sure it’s seated properly. Replace the red cap and screw clockwise to tighten into place.
- 2. Next, let’s check both the tanks in your cleaner. Here’s how:
- a. First, make sure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom tank. This step should be performed without water in the bladder or tank.
- Be sure the 2-in-1 water tank lid is correctly attached to the tank bottom by hooking nozzle in groove at the front of the tank bottom before securing the tank lid with the grey latch at the back of the tank. If the 2-in-1 tank assembly can be lifted by the handle without the tank lid separating from the tank bottom, the 2-in-1 water tank is properly assembled.
- b. Make sure the Auto-Load gaskets in place and the tanks are seated properly. This step should be performed without water in the bladder or tank.
- Check the bottom of the 2-in-1 water tank and the SmartMix® formula bottle to make sure each has a red rubber auto-load gasket attached and facing outwards. If the gasket is missing, please check the base of the machine in both locations for the red rubber auto-load gaskets to make sure they are not stuck in the base of the unit. If located in the base of the unit, please remove and re-attach to the water tank or formula bottle (a flathead screwdriver or pliers work well).
- c. With hot tap water in both tanks, hold the tanks over a sink and press upward on the x-valve to see if the tanks release water.
- The x-valve is located on the bottom of the tank. (The red gasket above is attached to it.) If the tank releases water, go on to step 3. If it doesn’t release water, the tank isn’t working properly, get a replacement tank.
- 3. Now, check to see if the hose can spray.
- a. If the hose sprays, go on to step 4.
- b. If it doesn’t, remove the tool on the end of the hose and then see if it sprays.
- If the hose sprays when the attachment is not connected, then the tool is clogged. Try cleaning out the spray-tip on the tool with a paper clip. If after cleaning the tool won’t spray, the tool may require replacement.
- c. Stretch the hose out and give it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the internal water supply hose.
- 4. If that doesn’t work, we’ll need to test the cleaner with another tank.
- a. First, set to water rinse.
- b. Then, remove the SmartMix bottle and fill it with water only.
- c. Place the smart mix bottle into the collection tank reservoir (see photo below).
- d. Run the cleaner and try to spray to the hose, then the floor.
- If the unit sprays through the hose, then there is something wrong with the tank and you’ll need to order a replacement.
- If there’s still no spray through the hose, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to Acevacuums technician.
- There are several more steps listed below that take approximately 20-30 minutes to do. This may resolve the lack of spray. However, if you’d like to bypass these steps or don’t feel comfortable disassembling your cleaner further, take your unit into an authorized service center (see above).
- 5. You’ll need to remove the spray tip and test if it can spray out of the hoses. (Hoses may be black or clear.) Unplug and power off the unit before performing these troubleshooting steps.
- a. With the clean water tank assembly off of the unit and the solution tank still in place, pop the right red or white spray tips out of the base of the machine.
- There are two methods of removing the spray tips: 1) Lay the cleaner down so you can reach up underneath the base between the brushes. Poke your finger between the brushes and pop the spray tip up while pinching the plastic tabs on the top. 2) While pinching the spray tip tabs, a flathead screwdriver or pliers may be used to raise the spray tip out of the base of the machine.
- b. With a pair of pliers and a dry cloth, pinch the metal hose clamp and slide away to relieve pressure and remove spray tip.Make sure to leave the metal hose clamp on the hose.
- c. Next, gently stretch the hose out of the machine and lay a towel under the hose. Take the solution bottle with only water in it and place it in where the clean water tank plugs into the base and turn the SmartMix dial to water rinse. Turn the unit on and depress the trigger for 30-60 seconds. If it the hose sprays, repeat with the other spray tip.
- d. You may need to clean the spray tip.
- To do this, use a paperclip to push through the hole to clear any debris. Rinse the spray tip out with warm water. Reinsert the spray tip into the hose and check for spray. If the spray tip is still clogged, try soaking the spray tip(s) in a cup of hot tap water to loosen any build-up for about 10-15min and try the paperclip again. Insert spray tip back into the unit and try spraying.
- e. If the spray tips will not clear and there is spray out of the hose, the spray tip will need to be replaced.
- If there’s still no spray, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to Acevacuums technician.
- Start here if you have no spray at the floor, but you do have spray at the hose:
- 1. Some ProHeat 2X carpet cleaners may be equipped with an in line filter. Please check for the red filter in the location below by removing your water tank and follow steps a-e below. If you don’t have an inline filter, please proceed to step 2.

- 2. Next, check for tension in the trigger.
- If there isn’t any tension, you’ll need to purchase a new upper handle.
- There are several more steps listed below that take approximately 20-30 minutes to do. This may resolve the lack of spray. However, if you’d like to bypass these steps or don’t feel comfortable disassembling your cleaner further, take your unit into an authorized service center (see above).

- 1. First, make sure the dial on the top of the tank is set to “tools” and that the handle is in the locked upright position.
- 2. Next, fill the tank with hot water to try and flush the line by pulling the trigger.
- 3. If that doesn’t work, remove the tool on the end of the hose and check for spray. Try cleaning out the spray tip on the tool (found on the underside of the tool below the bristles) with a paper clip or a soft bristle brush. A toothbrush works well. If the tool still doesn’t spray, it may need to be replaced. You can purchase a new tool from Acevacuums.com.
- 4. Try stretching out the hose out by giving it a few light tugs to release any kinks in the internal water supply hose.
- 5. If there’s still no spray with the tool removed try and clean the spray connector on the hose itself with a paperclip.
- 6. If you’re still stuck, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to Acevacuums technician.
My ProHeat 2X® is not suctioning properly. What should I check?
Answer:
Let’s start by figuring out where your carpet cleaner has suction. Check for suction in the hose and at the floor. If you have suction at just one of them, you can scroll down to find some troubleshooting steps for your situation. If you don’t have any suction at all, start below:
1. First, let’s check to see if there’s suction at the motor duct gasket. (Found to the far right of the wash setting dial.)
a. Make sure the lip of the gasket is not folded inward.
If there’s no suction at the motor-duct, please contact a Acevacuums BISSELL Authorized Service Center.
2. If there is suction at the motor-duct follow the steps below:
a. Remove the tank and check the floor nozzle (the long slit where water sprays from). If there are any cracks at all, you’ll need to order a new nozzle.
b. If there aren’t any cracks, check the red Tank Lint Screen for debris. If the Lint Screen is dirty, the suction won’t be very strong. Cleaning the screen should improve the suction.
3. Next, check the Ready Tools Dial for the appropriate setting (Floor Cleaning or Tools). The colored dot on the Ready Tools Dial should align with one of the two options.
4. Now let’s make sure the Auto-Load gaskets in place and the tanks are seated properly. Please be sure there’s no water in the tanks for this step.
a. Check the bottom of the 2-in-1 water tank and the SmartMix® formula bottle to make sure each has a red rubber auto-load gasket attached and facing outwards. If the gasket is missing, please check the base of the machine in both locations for the red rubber auto-load gaskets to make sure they are not stuck in the base of the unit. If they’re in the base of the unit, please remove, (a flathead screwdriver or pliers work well), and re-attach the gasket to the water tank or formula bottle.
b. Please also ensure that the cap is tightened down properly on both 2-in-1 water tank and SmartMix Bottle.
5. Check the 2-in-1 tank assembly for damage or cracks. Make sure the 2-in-1 tank assembly is seated properly to ensure good suction.
6. Make sure the water tank is not full on the outside of the bladder. If it is, empty the tank.
a. Make sure the tank lid is properly attached to the bottom tank. To attach the lid, first hook the front lip of the tank lid under the groove on the front edge of the bottom tank. Then, secure the latch on the back of the bottom tank.
b. To check if the tank lid is secure, lift up on tank handle to see if the two parts detach from each other. This step is better performed over a sink if the tanks aren’t empty.
7. Check to see if the red float flap door, located in the tank lid, is shutting prematurely when unit is turned the unit on. If it is, give us a call at 1-800-237-7691, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. A representative will be ready and waiting to help you out!
8. Unit must be in the locked, upright position and set to the ‘Tools’ setting for suction to occur through the hose. If handle is tilted back in the slightest while using the hose, it will create a small gap where the handle meets the gasket, above the bottom tank. This will cause little or no suction.
9. If you still can’t get any suction, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to Acevacuums technician.
1. First, double check that your cleaner is set to the correct setting (Floors or Tools).
2. Next, if there’s no suction at the floor, see if the floor nozzle is clogged. If it is, cleaning the clog after detaching the nozzle should increase the suction.
3. Check the red Tank Lint Screen for debris. If the Lint Screen is dirty, the cleaner will have less suction. Cleaning the lint screen should restore suction.
4. Now see if there’s any damage to the floor nozzle, tank lid, or tank. Any type of break or crack in these parts would reduce suction.
5. Check to make sure the end caps are secured tightly with all screws in place.
6. If there’s no suction at the hose –
a. Your cleaner must be in the locked, upright position and set to the ‘Tools’ setting for suction to occur through the hose. If handle is tilted back in the slightest while using the hose, it will create a small gap where the handle meets the gasket, above the bottom tank. This will cause little or no suction.
b. Next, check the rear cover gasket to make sure it is in place and not damaged
c. Remove tool on the hose by pressing the release button and check for suction at the end of hose. If there is suction without the tool attached, the tool is most likely clogged. Try rinsing the tool while it’s unattached under a faucet to clean out debris.
7. If you’re still unable to get suction, at this point it might be best to take your carpet cleaner to Acevacuums technician.
Why doesn’t my vacuum suction anymore?
Answer:
- Make sure the dirt container is empty.
- Check the inner and outer circular filters and the post-motor filter for debris. Also check the upper tank louvers, as they may need to be rinsed. The filters can be hand washed in warm tap water and mild soap. Make sure they are completely dry before reusing.
- Check for good suction at the end of the upholstery hose. If there is good suction, make sure the hose is firmly connected to the lower hose on the back of the vacuum.
- Check the brush to see if it is rotating. If not, remove the access panel by removing the 5 screws under your machine.
- Check the back of the machine after removing the hose where it attaches to the back of the vacuum. If there is suction, most likely there is a clog in your machine.
-
Check the upper hose for clogs by detaching the hose from the machine. Push a broomstick into the hose to push any obstruction through the end of the hose. If you are still having difficulty with your machine, please take your vacuum to a local Bissell service center.
How do I maintain my Bagless vacuum?
Answer:
BISSELL bagless vacuums generally contain three filters, which should be cleaned frequently.
The three filters are the round filter located above the dirt cup, the square filter located in the tray beneath the dirt cup and the rectangular filter located on the side or back of the machine. These filters should be cleaned or replaced often to allow for proper air flow of the machine. Clogged filters can lead to reduced suction power of your machine. The black filters can be washed in warm water and mild detergent and should be completely dry prior to re-installing. Other filters can be replaced, as well as the black ones. Excess hair and debris should be cleaned from the brush roller to allow the brush to move freely. The belt should be checked periodically.
Why isn’t my vacuum suctioning?
Answer:
Check for suction at the back of the unit, after removing the hose where it attaches to the back of the vacuum.
If there is suction at the back of the machine with the hose removed, please check the following:
Unplug the unit from the outlet.
Check the Pre and Post-Motor filters for debris. Dirty filters can restrict airflow. The pre-motor foam filter is square and located in a pull out tray underneath the dirt cup. The foam filter may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Reinstall the filter when it is completely dry.
The Multi-Layer Post Motor Filter is rectangular and located on the side of the machine. Note: The white Multi-Layer Post Motor is not washable.
Ensure the dirt cup is empty. Check the upper tank for build up or clogs. If it needs to be cleaned, use a short Phillips head screwdriver and take off the separator plate with a damp cloth moistened with water or mild cleaning detergent. Replace the dirt cup.
Check for good suction at the end of the upholstery hose. If there is good suction, make sure the hose is firmly connected to the lower hose on the back of the vacuum. If there is not suction at the end of the hose, check the hose for splits, cracks or clogs.
Make sure the brush is rotating. If it is not, remove the access plate and examine the brush, and belt for damage. The access panel can be removed by lifting the 4 tabs located at the bottom of your machine. Lift tab 1 then 2-4 tabs to remove the access panel.
CLEARING CLOGS
Detach the upper hose from the machine. Insert a broomstick into the hose to push any obstruction through to the opposite end.
Remove the screw from the left side of the lower hose on the back of the unit, and straighten this section of hose by pulling it down or lay the unit out flat, and roll the unit on its side with the lower house towards the top side. Look through the hose for any obstructions. Push a broom stick through the lower hose to unclog.
My PowerForce® Bagless vacuum is blowing dust and or not suctioning properly. What can I check?
Answer:
1. Check for clogs in the lower hose.
- To ensure safety, start by unplugging your machine and removing the screw from the left side of the lower hose on the back of the unit. Lay the vacuum on its side, with the lower hose facing up.
- With the hose loose, straighten it into one line. Look through the hose for obstructions. Push a broomstick through the lower hose to unclog it.
2. Thoroughly vacuum the area where dust is blowing up as the brush will continue to rotate. The rotating brush causes debris to move up through the hose.
3. Check the dirt cup to make sure it is empty.
4. Your vacuum has 3 filters. Check the inner and outer circular filters in the filter cup and the post-motor filter on the front of the machine for debris. Also check the upper-tank louvers (this a grey plastic piece that looks like a filter). They may be removed and rinsed. Dirty filters will restrict air flow. The filters may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Allow them to completely dry before reinstalling them. The white Multi-Layer Post Motor Filter is not washable.
5. Check for good suction at the end of the upholstery hose with handle. If there is good suction, be sure this end of the hose is firmly pressed into the lower hose outlet on the back of the vacuum. Also check to ensure the brush is rotating. If it’s not, remove the plate on the bottom of the vacuum by the two tabs and check the belt and clean the roller of debris and dirt. If the lower hose is clogged, remove the hose with handle and clean this hose.
6. If there is not good suction at the end of the hose with handle, remove the hose by twisting it off the back of the machine and check for suction on the vacuum. If the suction power is good, check the hose for cracks or splits and using a broomstick handle, push any dirt or debris through the hose.
