Miele Filters Explained: Filter Families, Fit & Care

The right Miele filter depends on the vacuum’s exact model and the filter’s position in the machine. Start with the model label and the code on the filter you are replacing. Then check whether you need a motor-protection filter, exhaust filter or a model-specific fine-dust component.

Separate the filter’s job from its fit

HEPA AirClean and Active AirClean are filter descriptions, not a universal fit designation. The number and supported model list still matter. HEPA options focus on fine-particle filtration; Active AirClean uses activated charcoal for odor control. Choosing one does not remove the need to verify the correct filter family.

Use the filter family to narrow your search

Bagged canisters, bagless machines and cordless models need separate checks

Do not carry a bagged-canister filter recommendation over to a Boost, Blizzard, Triflex, Duoflex or Scout simply because it is also a Miele. Read the applicable manual and the replacement listing for that exact model. Even within a cordless range, generations can matter.

Check maintenance packs carefully

A pack may combine bags with an exhaust filter. The bags and the filter each need to match your machine. Count the bags and included filters before comparing a performance pack with a standard bag box. Our Miele bag and filter compatibility guide explains the bag families separately.

Cleaning and replacement

Follow the instructions and indicators supplied for your model and filter. Wash only a component that Miele identifies as washable, using its stated cleaning and drying procedure. Do not assume a disposable filter can be restored by rinsing or brushing it.

If suction remains poor after the appropriate maintenance, a bag, blockage or another fault may also need attention. Replacing filters repeatedly is not a substitute for identifying the cause.

2. The existing filter code and a clear photo of the filter.
3. The position of that filter in the machine.
