Match the connection before choosing the kit
| Connection type | What to check |
|---|---|
| Direct-connect electric hose | Electrical pins at the wall end must match a compatible powered inlet. Check orientation and the required fitting. |
| Pigtail electric hose | A separate cord supplies the powered brush from a nearby electrical outlet. Confirm the hose and powerhead connectors. |
| Low-voltage hose | A handle switch can control compatible power units, but it does not by itself supply line-voltage power to an electric brush. |
| Basic suction hose | Confirm inlet fit and how the unit starts. Cleaning tools may be suction-only or air-driven, depending on the kit. |
Choose tools for the floors you actually clean
Hard floors
Look for a compatible floor brush suited to the surface and follow the flooring manufacturer’s care guidance.
Carpet and rugs
An electric powerhead or air-driven tool must suit the hose, connections and carpet. Check pile-height guidance and brush controls.
Stairs and furniture
Consider wand length, hose handling, upholstery tools and a crevice tool. Check what the kit includes rather than assuming every attachment is supplied.

- Power-unit brand and model.
- Wall inlet opening and any electrical contacts.
- Hose wall end, handle end and length.
- Wand locking mechanism and powerhead connector.
- Floor types and the tools you want to keep.
A power-unit brand alone does not establish accessory fit. Older systems may have proprietary connections or need a specific adapter.
Your questions, answered
Are central vacuum hoses universal?
No. Many systems share common fitting sizes, but electrical connections, inlet designs, handle fittings and locking mechanisms can differ. Confirm the complete connection path.
Can I use an electric powerhead with a non-electric hose?
An electric powerhead requires a compatible electrical supply and connections. A suction-only or low-voltage-only hose does not automatically power it.
Do I need a whole new kit if the brush fails?
Not always. The fault may be in the brush, belt, connection or hose. Ask about diagnosis before replacing all the attachments.
