How to Choose a Hose or Powerhead for Your BEAM Central Vacuum
Ace Vacuums · BEAM owner guides
Match the wall inlet, hose handle, wand and powerhead together. A BEAM power-unit model alone does not identify the correct accessory connection. Decide how the brush receives power, then verify the mechanical fit and controls at both ends of the hose.
Replacing a worn hose can be straightforward when the connection details are known. It becomes frustrating when a new hose fits the wall but will not connect to the existing wand or powerhead. Use the checks below before choosing a single component or a complete cleaning kit.
1. Identify how the hose and brush are powered
| Type | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Basic suction hose | The air connection and how the system starts. A basic hose does not supply mains electricity to a powerhead. |
| Low-voltage switch hose | A handle switch controls the central unit. Low-voltage control alone does not provide power for a conventional electric brush motor. |
| Electric direct-connect hose | The wall-end electrical connector mates with a compatible electrified inlet. Confirm the inlet and the powerhead connection. |
| Electric corded / pigtail hose | A separate cord supplies brush power from an appropriate nearby outlet. Confirm the corded version and every accessory connection. |
Direct-connect and corded refer to how an electric hose receives brush power at the wall end. The short electrical contacts on a basic inlet may only control the central unit; their presence does not prove that the inlet supplies mains power to a brush.
Photograph the inlet and disconnected hose end. Do not remove a wall plate or probe contacts to identify it. Manufacturer connection examples are shown in the MD EBK360 kit manual; use the instructions for the equipment you actually own.
2. Check the entire connection chain
- Wall inlet to hose: check the opening, fit, electrical arrangement and any special inlet system.
- Hose handle to wand: check the shape, diameter and locking method, including button-lock or friction-fit connections.
- Electrical connection: photograph the plug and socket, pin arrangement and any separate cord. Similar-looking connectors may be wired or positioned differently.
- Wand to powerhead: confirm the neck, latch and electrical connection at the cleaning head.
- Controls: identify the handle switch and any electronic communication features you want to retain.
Switch the equipment off and disconnect its power before separating powered accessories. Do not cut plugs, force pins or modify wiring to make an incompatible part fit.

3. Choose the cleaning head for the floor and the system
Start with the flooring manufacturer’s care instructions, especially for delicate rugs or finishes. Then check how the proposed tool is powered and connected.
- Suction-only floor tools have no powered brushroll. Match the wand fit and the tool’s suitability for the floor.
- Air-driven turbine heads use the vacuum airflow to turn a brush. They do not need electric brush power through the hose.
- Electric powerheads need a compatible power supply through the hose and wand or their specified connection arrangement.
- Battery-powered heads use their own battery for the brush motor, but still need a compatible physical connection and charging setup.
The BEAM parts directory includes multiple brands and accessory types. A listing in that directory means it is an option to investigate; the selected configuration still needs to match your equipment.
4. Check BEAM Q, Solaire, Alliance and retractable systems
Not every replacement advertised for BEAM supports every BEAM accessory family. For example, MD’s electric hose reference specifically excludes BEAM Q and BEAM Solaire Power Teams. That exclusion applies to the MD replacement described there; it should not be overlooked because your power unit also says BEAM.
BEAM’s Alliance 700TCN01A reference describes communication between the power unit and hose handle. If you have Alliance controls, identify the exact hose and unit before choosing a replacement so the required functions can be checked.
Retractable hose systems also need a separate match. Identify the inlet system, hose type, handle and required length. A conventional coiled hose or electric hose should not be assumed to be a replacement for a hose stored inside the pipework.
5. Choose the length, then compare a hose with a complete kit
Measure the route from each wall inlet to the farthest area you need to clean, allowing for doorways, furniture and stairs. Compare that route with the existing hose. Extra length may be useful, but it also adds hose to carry and store.
Choose a hose-only replacement when the existing wand and tools are in good condition and their connections can be confirmed. A complete kit can be easier to match when several pieces are worn or when you want a different cleaning head, because the supplied components are designed to work together. The kit still needs to match your home’s inlet and electrical arrangement.
One catalog example is the BEAM BEEL35XP kit with a 35-foot hose and EBK360 powerhead. Check the listed configuration and included parts before ordering; do not infer universal compatibility from the kit’s brand.
For a useful fit check, send the inlet photo, both hose ends, the powerhead label and your preferred length. Our model and photo guide explains how to collect those details.
Common hose and powerhead questions
Will a new hose fit because the tank is BEAM?
The tank brand is only a starting point. The wall inlet and accessory connections determine the required hose configuration.
Can I run an electric powerhead with a low-voltage hose?
A conventional electric head needs its specified power supply. A low-voltage control hose alone does not supply that power.
Does an adapter solve every mismatch?
No. An adapter must be specified for the exact components and function. It cannot be assumed to supply missing electrical power or preserve electronic controls.
